Following extensive modernisation during 2005, the Royal meeting returned to it's Berkshire home for 2006. The
meeting will run from Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th June 2006. The official opening of the racecourse will take
place on the first day of the Royal Meeting.
The Royal Ascot racing week June 2006
The Royal Ascot is an internationally renowned sporting and social occasion, where tradition, pageantry and style all meet in
a glorious setting - against the spectacular backdrop of top class thoroughbreds and world famous jockeys competing for
some of the highest accolades in horseracing. Royal Ascot will run from Tuesday 20th June 2006 to Saturday 24th June 2006,
with all five days televised by the BBC.
As this event is so popular you should get your Royal Ascot tickets as soon as you can! If you haven't been before you won't
want to miss out on this great day out.
Though the racing is the main event, it is matched by the fashion on display, with a colourful array of outfits and hats
creating one of the most elegant and sophisticated events in the summer calendar.
Due to the anticipated high demand, Royal Ascot tickets for the public enclosures and hospitality packages went on public sale
three months earlier than normal, back in October 2005.
Royal Enclosure badges will be available from Tuesday 4th January 2006.

The bulldozers ripped up Ascot, the Queen's racecourse, for the first time in 40 years. The 2005 Royal Ascot
meeting and Royal Ascot tickets was transferred to York, still controlled by the Ascot authority. The Diamond meeting
2005 was held at Newbury. At York, the capacity was set at 50,000 each day and there was a Royal enclosure with the
Royal procession opening proceedings as per tradition. See links opposite for more on Royal Ascot tickets.

Footnote
Ascot, Berkshire is owned by the Crown Estate (effectively the property investment arm of the Treasury). The Queen controls the racing at Ascot through three trustees.
Together they run the Ascot Authority and pay a nominal rent to the Crown Estate. The £185m refurbishment will reportedly
come from Ascot's own reserves, a loan from the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the balance from Barclays and Allied Irish Banks. No public funding is
reportedly involved .. it would have required an approval from Treasury!
